NEWTON, Mass. – Sophomore Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda (South Boston, Mass.) recorded a game-high 20 points and a team-high nine rebounds Tuesday evening as Emmanuel College defeated Lasell College, 62-34, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's basketball game at the Lasell Athletic Center.
Ramirez-Tejeda made 10-of-21 field goal attempts for the winners, while sophomore Kayla Weaver (West Haven, Conn.) added 10 points to the cause on 4-of-8 shooting. The Saints posted their 12th straight victory to improve to 16-6 overall and 12-1 in conference play.
Sophomore Dana Ross (East Haven, Conn.) played a strong game for Lasell (3-17, 1-12 GNAC), posting her second double-double of the season with a career-high 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Senior Brianna Hoffman (Milford, N.H.) scored seven points, while classmate Morgan Church (New London, N.H.), who had scored in double figures in 10 straight games and led the team in scoring in 13 in a row, was limited to seven points on 2-of-15 shooting.
Emmanuel took control of the game from the opening tip-off, scoring the first 14 points of the contest before Hoffman drained a three-pointer to put the Lasers on the board. Senior Ryan Maynard (Bowie, Md.) had six points and Ramirez-Tejeda four in the opening rally for the Saints. The Lasers settled down and played the visitors evenly the last six minutes of the quarter and trailed by 14 points after one period, 24-10.
The Saints scored the first seven points of the second quarter to push the lead up to 21 points (31-10), and went on to outscore the Lasers 12-5 in the quarter to take a 36-15 advantage into the locker room. Ramirez-Tejeda had 14 points for Emmanuel at the break. Emmanuel maintained its 20-point margin throughout the second half, and coasted to the lop-sided victory.
Lasell gets back into action on Thursday with a non-conference encounter at Emerson College at 7:00 p.m., while Emmanuel plays again on Saturday with a GNAC meeting at Mount Ida College at 1:00 p.m.
