CHICOPEE, Mass. - Emmanuel's cross country programs turned in strong showings at the Blazer Classic, hosted by Elms College at Chicopee Memorial Park, with the women's squad claiming the team title and the men finishing runner-up.

Women's 6k — 1st Place (22 points)
The Saints women were led by a dominant 1-2 finish. Senior Kendall Newton won the individual title outright in 25:00.6 (6:42.4 avg. mile), with fellow senior Julia Kurthy right behind in second place at 25:16.5. Senior Mia DeMore rounded out Emmanuel's top three, crossing in fifth place overall with a time of 26:18.0.

That trio, combined with strong depth from Maddie Brown (6th) and Emma Braga (8th), powered Emmanuel to a comfortable team win over Western New England (35 points) and Elms (88 points).

Men's 8k — 2nd Place (63 points)
On the men's side, Emmanuel finished second behind a strong Western New England squad. The Saints' top runner was senior Nicholas Ware, who placed 7th overall in 30:10.2. Fellow senior Luke Bullock was right on his heels in 8th at 30:11.3, and senior Ryan Bausch completed Emmanuel's top three, finishing 13th in 30:49.8.

That front pack helped Emmanuel hold off Curry College (97 points) for second place in the team standings, though Western New England's depth (26 points) proved too much to overcome.

The Saints are back on course Saturday, Sept. 19, competing in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
