A 21-9 run late in the first half helped power the Women's Basketball Team to a 77-53 victory over host MIT in non-conference action on Tuesday night. With this win, the Saints improved to 5-2 on the year while the Engineers fell to 2-4.

Emmanuel opened the game with eight straight points, six of which came courtesy of senior guard Jade Paez (Bronx, NY) who became the 17th player in the program's history to surpass the 1,000-point mark. Cheryl Kwinn put MIT on the board at the 13:49 mark and it eventually narrowed the gap to four points (11-7) two minutes later. A lay-up by freshman guard Samantha Murphy (Manchester, CT) on the Saints' ensuing possession ignited a pivotal run that resulted in a 32-16 advantage at the break.

Emmanuel carried the momentum into the second stanza as senior guard Leah Lipschitz (Bayside, NY) and sophomore guard Iman Davis (Toms River, NJ) combined for 10 unanswered points during a span of 2:17. Trailing 53-26, the Engineers scored 14 out of the next 16 points to come within 15 points (55-40) with 8:33 on the clock. The Saints stopped the rally with seven consecutive points as MIT would come no closer than 17 down the stretch.

Davis contributed 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Murphy totaled 13 points and five boards. Lipschitz tacked on 10 points and sophomore forward Abigail Brenkach (Germantown, NY) notched three blocks. In addition to setting her career milestone, Paez added eight assists and six steals for the Saints.

Both teams will continue non-conference play this week. MIT will host Fisher College on Saturday, while Emmanuel will make the trip to Wesleyan University on Thursday (12/6).
