Nashua, NH - The Emmanuel Saints outlasted Rivier College on Thursday night, 80-70, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's basketball action. The Saints' win was sparked by the up-tempo pressure defense of the Emmanuel backcourt. Raider turnovers led to Emmanuel buckets down the stretch and the visiting Saints came away with the win over the defending GNAC Champions.
Rob Williams-Hinton (Oak Park, MI) put on another tremendous shooting display for Emmanuel. The junior guard erupted for a game-high 25 points, hitting 5 of 7 attempts from long range. He also pulled down a team-high 8 rebounds and gathered 4 steals. Junior forward Mack Spellman (Clinton, NY) hit for 20 points, while senior forward Levi Smith (Tulsa, OK) notched 9 points and hauled in 5 rebounds. Junior forward Andres Bustamante (Amherst, MA) played another solid game for the Saints with 4 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
It was the second half backcourt pressure of rookie J.P. Ventura (Riva, MD) and sophomore Mike Jackson (New York, NY) that propelled Emmanuel in the win. The Saints were careful with the ball, turning it over just 8 times for the game.
The Raiders were led by senior forward Jeff Carpenter's (Meredith, NH) 23 points and 4 rebounds. Carpenter was the only Rivier player scoring in double figures. With this loss, the Raiders fall to 9-6 overall and 6-3 in the conference. Emmanuel improves to 10-5 on the season and 8-1 in GNAC play. The Saints will return to the court on Saturday (1/26), when they host the Lions of Emerson College in a cross-town rivalry beginning at 1pm.
