Boston, MA - Sophomore guard Iman Davis (Toms River, NJ) pumped in a game-high 21 points, hitting 10 of 16 shots from the floor, to lead Emmanuel to a 79-46 win over visiting Norwich University in GNAC women's basketball action on Thursday night. With this win, the Saints improved to 13-5 overall and remain undefeated at 7-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Norwich fell to 5-13 on the season and 4-3 in GNAC play.
Norwich played Emmanuel fairly evenly for most of the first half, trailing by just 3 points at the break (35-32). The lead changed six times during the opening stanza. However, it was Emmanuel's full-court pressure defensive that caused problems for the Cadets in the second half. The Saints' defense held Norwich to just 7 points in the first thirteen minutes of the second half. Norwich finished with just 14 points in the second half of play, while Emmanuel extended their lead by an additional 30 points, giving the Saints a 79-46 edge. The Saints also out-rebounded Norwich, 53-40, and forced 19 Cadet turnovers.
Davis was one of three players to score in double figures for Emmanuel. Freshman guard Kristin LeBel (Tolland, CT) hit for 16 points, including 3 second-half three-pointers. Senior guard Brittany Bushman (Portsmouth, NH) chipped in with 11 points, also hitting three shots from behind the arc. Bushman now has a career total of 982 points. Freshman point guard Casey Shevlin (Medford, NY) dished out a game-high 6 assists in the win.
Norwich got 9 points from sophomore guard Kylie Cowens (Middlesex, VT) and 8 points from sophomore guard Natalie Marchese (Rutland, VT). Four players grabbed 5 rebounds apiece for the Cadets.
Emmanuel will be back in action on Saturday (2/2), when the Saints host the Raiders of Rivier College in a 1pm start. The eight seniors on the Emmanuel squad will be honored prior to the start of this game.
