Boston, Mass. - The Colonels of Curry College picked up their first win of the season, defeating Emmanuel College in women's soccer action on Thursday night. The Colonels notched three goals in the first half and came away with a 3-1 victory over the host Saints.
Curry's junior forward and 2007 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Year Ashley Hansbury (Chelmsford, MA) led the charge for the Colonels. Hansbury struck again ten minutes later, when she scored on a breakaway, giving the Colonels at 2-0 lead. Curry scored its third and final goal at 37:44, when sophomore Emily Keeman (Whitman, MA) knocked in her first goal of the season.
The Colonels took a 3-0 advantage into the break. Emmanuel came out fighting in the second half. The Saints scored two minutes in (47:08), when sophomore forward Amber Di Nucci (Assonet, MA) connected on a header off a cross from junior defender Meghan Long (Smithfield, RI). Emmanuel kept the pressure on and outshot Curry, 11-4, in the second stanza, but the Saints could not close the gap and the Colonels took home a 3-1 win.
