BANGOR, Maine - The Emmanuel College Women's Soccer Team traveled to Bangor, Maine on Saturday to compete in the Husson University Classic. Emmanuel faced host Husson in the opener and topped the Eagles, 2-1, giving the Saints their first win of the season. The seemingly evenly matched teams remained tied through much of the contest. The Saints found the scoreboard in the 71st minute, when Brittany Ridge (Portland, Me.) scored the game winning goal off an Amber Di Nucci (New Bedford, Mass.) assist. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 1-1 while the Saints improve to 1-1 on the season.

The Saints struck first, scoring their first goal at 11:33 into the first half. The goal came when Meghan Zerba (Cumberland, R.I.) made a crisp pass across the Husson goal box to a waiting Darcey Sullivan (Dalton, Mass.). Sullivan buried the ball into the back of the net. The Eagles answered with a side-netting goal struck by Meg Clement (Brunswick, Me.) and assisted by Katie McLaughlin (Winslow, Me.).

Husson and Emmanuel remained tied until midway through the second half when Di Nucci found Ridge open in front of the Husson net. Ridge hit a low strike to the bottom right corner of the goal for the game-winner.

Emmanuel tallied 12 shots, while Husson recorded 10 shots on the effort. Freshman keeper Beatrix Hassler (Jericho, Vt.) made her first collegiate appearance and tallied 5 saves in goal for Emmanuel. Husson's Rozlyn Petersen (Newport, Me.) made 4 saves for the Eagles.

Emmanuel will face The University of Maine at Fort Kent on Sunday at 10:00am in the second round of the Husson Classic. The Eagles return to action on Sunday with a 12:00 game against Norwich University.
