QUINCY, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Women's Volleyball Team
took care of Eastern Nazarene College in three sets in a
non-conference match played in Lahue Gymnasium on Thursday night.
The Saints demonstrated versatility on offense and defense and the
Lions struggled with consistency as Emmanuel swept the match with
set scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-18.
Set one was back and forth early but Saints pulled away in the
latter half of the set to grab an early 1-0 match lead. The Lions
were forced to finish the set without starting setter Birdina
Tuiav, who was forced to leave the match with an injury.
Freshman Sondra Hazelton began set two at setter for ENC and
immediately set up sophomore Cayla Clinkscale for a kill. The
Saints answered with a kill of their own and four service aces from
senior Kathryne Olsen to
take the early 5-1 lead. Emmanuel continued to pull away until
Hazleton and Clinkscale connected several times to bring the Lions
within seven at 15-8, but would get no closer. Emmanuel seniors Rebecca
Stanton and Jenna Ross were
dominant at the net as the Saints worked their way to the 25-15
win.
Both teams began the third with service errors, but Emmanuel was
able to pull it together to gain an early lead. The Lions did not
give up, however, getting the crowd on its feet with a huge
comeback that would bring the score to within four at 22-18 before
the Saints secured the 25-18 victory.
Freshman Kortney Jenkins and Clinkscale lead the offensive
attack, garnering seven and four kills, respectively. Hazleton
collected six assists in sets two and three and classmates Kori
