SAINTS FALL TO RIC IN FOUR-SETTER

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball Team was defeated by Rhode Island College, 3-1, in a non-conference match played in the Jean Yawkey Center on Tuesday night. The Saints jumped out to a quick 25-23 win in set one to open the match. The Anchorwomen then rallied to take the next three sets, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-21. The loss drops Emmanuel to 5-11 on the season, while RIC improves to 6-7 overall.

The visitors were paced by the play of junior outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, R.I.), who was one of three Anchorwomen to record a double-double on the night. Boyer slammed down a match-high 20 kills, hitting .333, while gathering 11 digs and serving off 3 aces. Rookie hitter Marina Stoermer (Seattle, Wash.) tallied 14 kills and 11 digs, while junior setter Jessica Ho (Providence, R.I.) dished out 42 assists to go along with her team-high 18 digs in the win.

Emmanuel was led by senior middle Rebecca Stanton (Quincy, Mass.), who notched 12 kills and 3 solo blocks. Senior setter Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, Mass.) hit .474 with 9 kills in 19 swings, to go along with her 13 assists and 6 digs. Senior outside Jenna Ross (Centerburg, Ohio) added 7 kills, 14 digs and 3 aces, while junior libero Yun-Ting Lee (Cambridge, Mass.) gathered a match-high 21 digs in the effort for the Saints.

The Saints will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Friday night, when they travel to Paxton, Mass. to take on Anna Maria College and Saint Joseph College (Conn.) in a conference tri-match. Rhode Island College will host Salem State University this Thursday in a 7:00 PM start.
