Box Score

Sept. 3, 2011

Bangor, Maine - Sophomore midfielder Donandrea Myette (Portsmouth, R.I.) netted the go-ahead goal midway through the second half of play to propel the Emmanuel College women's soccer team past Husson University, 3-1, in the opening round of the 2011 Husson University Classic this morning at the Boucher Soccer Pitch. With the victory the Saints start off the campaign with a 1-0 mark while the loss drops the Eagles to 1-1 overall.

With the score deadlocked at 1-1, Myette was able to beat freshman goalkeeper Jessica Poulin (Albion, Maine) at the 62:04 mark to put the Saints ahead for good at 2-1. Myette was assisted by junior midfielder Brittany Ridge (Portland, Maine).

After the go-ahead tally, Emmanuel would tack on an insurance goal just 63 second later as sophomore forward Darcey Sullivan (Dalton, Mass.) found the back of the net for the second time in the match to give the visitors some breathing room at 3-1 with 26:53 left to play in regulation. Ridge added her second assist of the match on the goal.

Sullivan got the scoring started just 7:28 into the contest with an unassisted goal to put the Saints on top, 1-0. The Eagles were held at bay by junior keeper Jessica D'Ottavio (Pawling, N.Y.) until the 57th minute of the match when sophomore forward Becca Jones (Newmarket, N.H.) evened the score at 1-1, putting home a feed from freshman midfielder Katie DeShane (Old Town, Maine).

D'Ottavio picked up the win, making five saves in net for the Saints while Poulin finished the game with seven saves.

Both squads will be back in action tomorrow in day two of the Husson University Classic as Emmanuel will take on Maine Maritime Academy at 9:30 AM while Husson will host University of New England at 12:00 PM.
