WOMEN'S BASKETBALL RALLIES TO PULL OUT 80-73 VICTORY OVER ST. JOSEPH (CT)

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Emmanuel College women's basketball team used a 24-4 second-half run to turn an eight-point deficit into a 12-point lead as the Saints defeated Saint Joseph College, 80-73, Monday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game at the O'Connell Center.

With the win, Emmanuel improved to 10-4 overall and 4-0 in the GNAC while Saint Joseph is now 9-4 and 2-2.

Saint Joseph shot a blistering 59 percent (20-for-34) in the first half and made six of nine three-pointers in building a 50-43 halftime lead. The Blue Jays had their biggest lead of the game at 48-37 with 2:06 left in the half after a three-pointer from Mary Hyde (Derby, Conn.)

Saint Joseph led 57-49 on a Hyde layup with 16:11 left in the game. But over the next 10 minutes, the hosts went 1-for-11 from the floor, 2-for-4 at the line, had 11 turnovers and trailed 73-61.

The Blue Jays, however, weren't done. Heather Framski (Prospect, Conn.) had a layup with 6:10 left to cut Saint Joseph's deficit to 10 and start a 12-3 run. Shauna Sullivan (Rocky Hill, Conn.) had four points in the streak and Hyde's jumper pulled the Blue Jays within 76-73 with 2:34 to go. But Saint Joseph had two turnovers and three missed shots on its final five possessions.

Hyde finished with a team-high 19 points for Saint Joseph. Claire Consonni (Bristol, Conn.) topped her career-high for the second consecutive game and scored 17 points. Devon Diliberto (Waterbury, Conn.) had 15 points and seven assists for the Blue Jays and Sullivan scored 10. Framski had eight points and nine rebounds.

Junior forward Fiona O'Dwyer (Stamford, Conn.) scored 22 points to lead Emmanuel while senior guard Meghan Kirwan (Melrose, Mass.) had 17 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and five assists. Sophomore forward Liz Daley (Sharon, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points off the bench on 4-5 shooting from the field.

The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday, January 18 when they head to Paxton, Mass. to take on Anna Maria College at 7:00 PM. Saint Joseph plays at Saint Joseph's of Maine, Wed. Jan. 18 at 7:00 PM.
