SAINTS ROLL TO 86-57 WIN AT ALBERTUS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Led by four players in double figures, the Emmanuel College Saints rolled to an 86-57 win over Albertus Magnus College on Saturday afternoon. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference game was played in New Haven, Connecticut as part of a women's and men's double-header. With the win, Emmanuel now improves to 15-6 on the season and remains perfect in GNAC play at 9-0.

Albertus was led by Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) with 21 points, including shooting 11-of-13 from the free-throw line. The loss puts the Falcons at 5-5 in league play, while their overall record moves to 12-9.

Emmanuel shot 53.8-percent in the opening half, while Albertus struggled, hitting just 10 of its first 36 attempts. After the Saints took an early 16-point lead, the Falcons battled back to cut the lead to five at 29-24 with 6:30 left in the first half. Emmanuel used a 23-8 run to finish out the frame to take a 20-point lead at intermission.

Another 23-7 run by Emmanuel in the second half extended the Saints lead to as much as 36 with 11:02 left in the contest. It was the Saints' largest lead of the day.

On the afternoon, the Falcons shot 27.5-percent from the floor, while Emmanuel shot 55.7-percent after a 59.1-percent showing in the second frame. Junior forward Fiona O'Dwyer (Stamford, Conn.) led the way for the Saints with 15 points, knocking down 7-of-12 from the field. Senior guard Meghan Kirwan (Melrose, Mass.) hit for 14 points, while grabbing 6 rebounds and dishing out a game-high 6 assists. Classmate Breanna Ockimey (Philadelphia, Pa.) also notched 14 points, while freshman Vanessa Bramante (Stoneham, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points and a team high 7 rebounds.

For the Falcons, Lindsay Karle (Wallingford, Conn.) tallied 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting, while Sarah Boudreau (Pascoag, R.I.) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Saints scored 48 points in the paint as well as 20 fast-break points. The Falcons finished the afternoon with a 17-of-23 showing from the charity stripe. The Falcons are now 2-17 all-time against Emmanuel dating back over 20 years.

Albertus returns to action on Tuesday night as the Falcons get set to host Mount Ida in GNAC play. That contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM Emmanuel will host Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM in the Jean Yawkey Center.
