Box Score 2 WALTHAM, Mass. – The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball Team earned a split on Saturday in a non-conference tri-match played at Brandeis University. The Saints kicked off the day with a 3-1 win over the host Judges, before dropping a three-set decision to Colby Sawyer College in the second match of the afternoon. With no conference matches played yet this season, the non-league split moves the Saints' record to 7-8 overall.
In Emmanuel's win over Brandeis, the Saints took the opening two sets, 25-20 and 25-19, before dropping set three, 13-25. Emmanuel then rebounded for the fourth set and the match win with a 25-14 victory.
Sophomore Brittany Tutalo (Johnston, R.I.), who has been on fire of late, led the visiting Saints with 12 kills in 25 swings, while collecting 5 digs. Freshman middle Kaitlyn Atkinson (Brookline, N.H.) swung at a clip of .421 with 11 kills in 19 total attacks, while tallying 5 blocks. Sophomore setter Shannon Dudley (Morro Bay, Calif.) ran the offense with 35 assists to go along with her 12 digs. Junior captain Cara Callahan (Medway, Mass.) also totaled 12 digs to lead the Saints.
Match two saw Emmanuel fall in three sets to the Chargers, 22-25, 16-25, 10-25. Emmanuel hit a dismal -.021 as a team with 19 attack errors. The Saints notched just 17 kills versus 37 by Colby Sawyer.
Freshman Cassie Chruscielski (Duluth, Minn.) led Emmanuel with 7 kills and 5 digs. Dudley dished out 15 assists and Callahan gathered a team-high 15 digs in the effort.
The Saints will be back in action this Tuesday evening, when Emmanuel returns home to the Jean Yawkey Center to host Rhode Island College in a 7:00 PM start. The Saints will open up Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) competition on Saturday, when they host Johnson & Wales University and Lasell College in a GNAC tri-match with start times of 1:00 PM, 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
