Men's Soccer Extends Win Streak to Five, Unbeaten Streak to Eight With 6-0 Win vs. Dean

BOSTON – Emmanuel men's soccer bumped their win streak to five and their unbeaten streak to eight games, as they claimed a 6-0 victory over the Dean Bulldogs on Wednesday night at Clemente Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

The five-game winning streak is the first of that length for the program since the 2011 season, as the Saints improve to 9-4-2 (8-2-2 GNAC) this season. Emmanuel's unbeaten string has them 5-0-3 in the last eight matches. The Bulldogs fall to 3-11-1 (2-9-1 GNAC) in the loss.

Emmanuel got on the board early, with the Aussie connection of first-years Benjamin Anderson and Aaron Picker combining to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. In the fourth minute, a perfect pass over the Bulldogs backline found by Picker found an onrushing Anderson at the top of the box. With two touches, Anderson settled the ball and slid a right-footed shot past the Dean keeper.

Despite 10 shots in the first half for Emmanuel, the Saints remained off the board, taking a 1-0 lead to halftime.

Senior Nicholas DiPace turned in a goal of the year candidate just after the break in the 48th minute. A loose ball found DiPace at the top left corner of the penalty area, 25 yards from goal. The senior left back took one touch toward goal and ripped a left-footed shot into the upper right-hand corner of the net, doubling the Saints lead.

Emmanuel made it 3-0 in the 54th minute on a tremendous display of dribbling by first-year Jacob Beck. Receiving a pass near the top of the box, Beck cut around two defenders, then cut through the same two seconds later, leaving him at the penalty spot to fire a right-footed shot into the goal.

First-year Rafael Matamoros joined the scoring in the 60th minute from close range. Senior Joey Soucy scored a pair in the 76th and 79th minutes, leading to the Saints 6-0 win.

Anderson's tally is his second of the season and goes as the game-winning goal. DiPace's 48th minute goal is the second tally of his career. Beck and Soucy are both up to five goals while Matamoros now has three in his rookie campaign.

Sophomore goalie Aristidis Stefanis made one stop for the Saints on the night and improves to 5-1-0 this season. Dean's goalie, junior Jake Godwin made four saves for the Bulldogs.

The Saints currently sit in fourth place in the GNAC table with 26 points and are three points clear of fifth place, Anna Maria, with two games remaining and a game in hand over the AMCATS. In Emmanuel's history, the men's program has never hosted a GNAC Postseason Match.

With their three-point lead in the standings, the Saints look to lock up a quarterfinal home playoff match on Saturday, Oct. 26, as they travel to Colby-Sawyer for a noon kickoff. The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday, Oct. 25, hosting Regis at 3:00 p.m.
