PORTLAND, Maine - After being tripped up in straight sets in their opening match with UMass Dartmouth, Emmanuel women's volleyball earned a split of their tri-match Saturday after defeating the University of Southern Maine, in a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday afternoon at USM. The split afternoon moves the Saints to 11-4 this season.
The Saints struggled in the opening set of their match with UMass Dartmouth, falling 25-13, and never managed to recover. Despite hitting higher percentages from the floor in sets two and three, Emmanuel eventually dropped the second 25-20 and the third 25-19, leading to the straight sets sweep.
In match two, against the University of Southern Maine, the Saints started the contest with their best set of the day, hitting .357 from the floor, winning the first set, 25-18. The second set extended into extra points as the Saints totaled 16 team kills in the frame, winning the close battle, 27-25. After a difficult third set, losing 25-16, Emmanuel managed to get back in the win column with a 26-24 fourth set win.
The second match featured a career-high 27 kills for junior
Isabella Marquez while hitting .293 in the win. First-years
Amber Hong and
Jayda Wallace chipped in with nine kills and seven kills, respectively.
The Saints are back on the court on Wednesday, Oct. 9, traveling to Rivier for a 7:00 p.m. conference match.
