BOSTON – After leading by just five at the half, Emmanuel women's basketball produced its highest-scoring quarter of the season, outscoring the Thomas College Terriers 25-6, on the way to a 61-43 victory on Thursday night on Yosinoff Court.
The Saints start their season at 3-1, wrapping up a season-opening four-game homestand with Thursday's victory. The Terriers drop down to 0-6 in the loss.
Emmanuel led 24-19 at the break before their 25-point outburst in the third boosted their advantage to 49-25. The Saints combined to shoot 10-for-21 in the third, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
After the sides traded the first two buckets of the half, the Saints exploded for an 18-1 surge, expanding the lead from six points to a 23-point advantage at 45-22. First-year
Madisun Hill was the catalyst in the run, knocking down three consecutive three-point shots in a span of 1:06.
The Saints led by as many as 29 down the stretch, their largest lead of the season, after outscoring the Terriers 8-3 through the opening 3:26 of the fourth. Thomas closed the gap in the final minute, scoring the last nine points of the night in the final 2:29, as the Saints went on to win, 61-43.
In those 61 points, no Saints player reached double-digits, as Hill, first-year
Tyra Blye, and graduate student
Olivia Matela all finished with nine points. Hill finished a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in 14 minutes off the bench. Blye added five rebounds, five assists, and four steals.
No Terrier player reached double-figures as junior
Elena Alderman led Thomas with eight points. First-year
Mollie Gray added seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Saints hit the road on Saturday, Nov. 23, as they travel to Trinity College for a 3:00 p.m. game, their last before Thanksgiving Break. The Terriers travel to the University of Southern Maine on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. tip.
