Women's Soccer Snags First GNAC Victory With 3-1 Win vs. Regis

BOSTON – Three first-half goals, including a pair for junior Sarah Dullaghan, provided plenty of offense for the Emmanuel women's soccer team, as they earned their first conference win of the season, a 3-1 triumph over the Regis Pride, on Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

The victory moves the Saints to 3-0-1 (1-0-1 GNAC) on the season. In their previous four games, the Saints have scored at least three goals in each contest. The Pride drop to 2-3-0 (1-1-0 GNAC) with the loss.

After nearly a scoreless half hour, the Saints opened the scoring in the 30th minute. Dullaghan scored the first of her two after a corner kick crossed in by junior Liz McCormick found the head of Dullaghan and the back of the net, for a 1-0 lead.
Just three minutes later, junior Maya Daryanani scored her first of the season, doubling the Emmanuel lead. A loose ball at the top of the penalty area fell favorably for Daryanani, who curled a left-footed shot, into the top left corner, putting the Saints up, 2-0.

Dullaghan found the back of the net just before halftime, upping the Emmanuel advantage to three. A handball in the box gave Dullaghan a chance at the penalty spot and a shot into the left netting was nearly stopped by the Pride keeper, but the attempt broke through the Regis goalie, giving the Saints a 3-0 halftime lead.

The Pride held significant momentum throughout the second half before finally breaking through in the 57th minute. Sophomore Delaney Scanlon found herself behind the Emmanuel defense. With a perfect strike from the left side of the penalty area, Scanlon found the right side-netting, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Regis nearly pulled within one in the final 15 minutes on another breakaway chance, but pressure from onrushing Saints defenders threw off the timing for the Pride, as the match remained and finished at 3-1.

Dullaghan has two goals in three straight matches and is up to seven goals and one assist this season. The junior forward is now just five points away from eclipsing the 100 career points mark. Daryanani found the scoresheet for the first time this season, scoring the game-winner on Wednesday night.

First-year goalie Teigan Robie made one stop in her first career collegiate start and victory, improving to 1-0-0 this year. Pride junior Daniela Mazo made four saves but loses her first decision of the year to fall to 2-1-0.

The Saints hit the road for a GNAC match at the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 2:30 p.m. The Pride are back on Saturday with a GNAC match of their own, hosting Lasell at 1:00 p.m.
