BOSTON - Emmanuel women's soccer extended their unbeaten streak to seven games to start the year after a 5-0 victory over the Dean Bulldogs on a rainy Saturday at Clemente Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
The Saints improve to 6-0-1 (4-0-1 GNAC) in their unbeaten start and have scored at least three goals in each of their first seven games. The Bulldogs drop to 1-5-1 (0-4-1 GNAC) following the loss.
The scoring started in the 11th minute with sophomore Libby Tennant netting her second of the year. Junior Liz McCormick started the play with a corner kick that found the head of sophomore Ciara Horan, then the foot of Tennant, giving the Saints a 1-0 lead.
Emmanuel was unable to find the net for the remainder of the first half, despite controlling the match and outshooting the Bulldogs 8-0 in the first half.
The four-goal outburst in the Saints second half started in the 57th minute with junior Sarah Dullaghan scoring on a rebound, originally off a shot by graduate student Hailey Goodman, doubling the lead for the home side.
Dullaghan helped set up the next tally, coming in the 64th minute on a blast from junior Annabel Balogh de Galantha. The Saints leading scorer dropped off a pass to the center back, who fired from 35 yards out, hitting the top-left corner crossbar and down into the net for a 3-0 edge.
Junior Maya Daryanani and Dullaghan finished off the scoring for the Saints in the 72nd and 78th minutes, respectively, on the way to the Saints 5-0 shutout win.
The Saints have won four consecutive games while outscoring opponents 17-1. Included in the winning streak are three straight matches without surrendering a goal. First-year Teigan Robie played 85 minutes in Saturday afternoon's victory, improving to 4-0-0 with the win.
Emmanuel returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 25, as they travel to Elms for a 7:00 p.m. match. The Bulldogs are back on the 25th with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff against Mitchell.
