BOSTON – Emmanuel women's volleyball scored its eighth straight win on Tuesday night, claiming a straight sets sweep (25-18, 25-22, 25-20) over the Framingham State Rams, in non-conference play on Yosinoff Court.
The Saints improve to 8-2 this season and finish this six-game homestand a perfect 6-0. The eight-game winning streak is the longest the Saints have put together since 2011, when they ripped off nine consecutive wins in October of that year. For the Rams, they fall to 3-8 with the loss.
The opening set was a frame of runs that kept the opening set tight through most of the set. An Emmanuel 15-3 run through the middle of the set opened an 19-12 edge. Saints junior
Isabella Marquez had six kills in the run. Framingham State battled back with five straight points, cutting the deficit to 19-17, but six of the final seven points favored the Saints, as they took the opening set 25-18.
The second set was a duel for momentum as neither side led by more than four points at any moment in the set. Tied 22-22 by the end, Emmanuel again used a strong closing stretch, claiming the final three points, capped off by a kill by first-year
Letitia Bossou, giving the Saints a 25-22 second set win.
In the third and final frame, Emmanuel seized control early and never surrendered the lead. The Saints led by five or more for the majority of the set, never in danger of falling behind. The Rams defended three match points before an attack error on Framingham State finished the straight sets sweep with a 25-20 third set victory.
Marquez finished the night with a match-high 18 kills, hitting a season-best .471 from the floor. Bossou added a career-high 11 kills while hitting a match-best .526 on the night. Sophomore setter
Kason Huynh added 37 assists and six digs in the win.
Rams sophomore
Natalie Reynolds finished with a team-high 10 kills while hitting .250 from the floor. First-year
Hope Verhoeven added seven kills and seven digs. Junior
Stella Bailey finished with 26 assists, eight digs, and two kills.
The Saints take their eight-game winning streak back into Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Friday, Sept. 27, as they travel to Elms for a 6:00 p.m. match. Framingham State returns on Thursday, Sept. 26, hosting Rhode Island College at 6:00 p.m.
