BOSTON - In a rare Friday night, under-the-lights match for Emmanuel men's soccer, the visitors from the west coast, the George Fox University Bruins, defeated the Saints 5-1, at Clemente Field. 

George Fox, located in the southwest suburbs of Portland, Ore., jumps to 2-0-0 this season while the Saints find themselves at 1-2-0 to open the 2024 campaign. 

Bruins first-year Talon Wagner opened the scoring in the ninth minute, scoring his first career collegiate goal, set up by an assist for senior Connor Kong, helping GFU to a 1-0 lead. 

The Bruins lead doubled in the 17th minute with Kong finding the goal column after a creative deflection, off a pass by senior Joshua Chang, found the side netting to give George Fox a 2-0 edge. 

Back-to-back tallies by Bruins junior Kaimi Victor, scored just two minutes apart boosted the GFU advantage to 4-0 through the first half hour. 

The Saints pulled one back in the 35th minute from the penalty spot after junior Pierre-Paul Labossiere drew the PK with a foul in the box. Senior RJ Darrell was summoned to shoot from the spot, and a perfectly placed shot into the bottom left corner broke up the shutout, making it 4-1 with the help of Darrell's first of the year. 

Emmanuel drew energy from the PK tally, applying pressure with their substitutes through the end of the half and over the first 15 minutes of the second half. 

Despite the Saints pressure, the score remained unchanged until the Bruins reestablished a four-goal advantage in the 69th minute on a powerful strike from 22 yards from goal by Chang, putting George Fox up 5-1. 

Kong's 17th-minute tally was his second of the season while Victor's consecutive goals were his first and second of the year. Chang's finisher in the second half gave him his first of the year. 

Former Saint, now Bruin, junior Justin Huttinger, played 78 minutes, making three stops in the victory. Huttinger spent the 2022 season as a first-year with Emmanuel. 

Saints goalie, sophomore Aristidis Stefanis, earned his first career collegiate start on Friday, making five stops in his Emmanuel debut. 

The Saints open Great Northeast Athletic Conference action in their next appearance, as they return to Clemente Field on Tuesday, Sept. 10 for a 7:00 p.m. match against Saint Joseph's of Maine. The Bruins finish a swing through Boston on Sunday, Sept. 8, as they head to Emerson for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
