Women's Soccer Rolls to 5-0 Win Over Simmons

BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College women's soccer put forth a dominant performance at Roberto Clemente Field on Tuesday evening, blanking Simmons University 5-0 in the Battle of Brookline. The Saints battled the conditions as well as the Sharks in this conference contest, but were able to use momentum from a high-scoring first half to come out on top. Emmanuel improves to 8-3-2, 7-0-1 GNAC, while Simmons falls to 3-8-1, 1-6-1 GNAC.

Emmanuel came out with energy, getting three shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes, and finally broke through just before the 20-minute mark. At the 19:23 mark, Loliana Morales converted on a header off of a corner kick by Liz McCormick to give the Saints a 1–0 lead. Only a few minutes later, Paige Letourneau struck in the 24th minute on a cross by Eva Simmons, extending the margin to 2–0. At 31:24, Simmons found the back of the net to make it three unanswered. Then, right before the break, Emmanuel tacked on another marker at 41:08 when Grace Foster scored, putting the Saints ahead 4–0 at halftime.

Just 6½ minutes into the second half (51:33), Emmanuel put the game firmly out of reach when Letourneau scored her second goal of the night, assisted by Morales to make it 5–0. From there, the Saints controlled play, kept possession, and prevented any Simmons threat. Emmanuel did not allow any Simmons player a single shot, while the Saints got 25 opportunities on goal.

Sharks goalkeeper, Mikaela Marie Javar had an impressive performance, posting a career-high 20 saves despite the loss. She faced a season-high shots against the Saints for the second straight season. The Saints tested her to the very end, with four shots on goal  and four saves in the final 100 seconds of play.
