NEW LONDON, N.H. - Claiming their fifth straight win, all coming with a clean sheet defensively, Emmanuel women's soccer defeated the Colby-Sawyer Chargers, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play from Kelsey Field. The win moves the Saints to 11-3-3 (10-0-2 GNAC), while the loss drops the Chargers to 6-8-4 (4-5-2 GNAC).
The Saints were on the board early in the first half, scoring back-to-back goals just 81 seconds apart. In the 16th minute, a cross in from the right goal line found the head of senior
Sarah Dullaghan, giving the Saints a 1-0 lead. Dullaghan's goal was quickly followed by sophomore
Aleena Solano, who scored from in close on a cross from the left side, doubling the Emmanuel lead.
The visitors took that 2-0 edge into halftime before bursting out with four more tallies in the second half. Dullaghan added her second of the afternoon in the 47th minute, running on to a pass behind the Chargers defense, boosting the lead to 3-0. Saints first-year
Abby Chambers scored in the 64th and 68th minutes, while fellow rookie
Grace Foster added a tally in the 73rd minute, on the way to Saturday's 6-0 result.Â
Dullaghan's pair of goals gives her a conference-leading 19 on the season, as she now sits at 98 career goals, closing in on becoming just one of 26 players in NCAA Division III Women's Soccer history to record 100 career goals. Solano tallied her seventh of the season, while Foster is up to five, and Chambers netted her first two career collegiate goals. Sophomore
Teigan Robie made one save in 76 minutes of play, improving to 11-3-3 in the win.
Saturday's win sets up a winner-take-all match for the top seed in the GNAC Postseason, as the final regular season match on Tuesday, Oct. 28, between Emmanuel and Lasell will determine the No. 1 seed in next weekend's playoffs. The Saints host the Lasers at 7:00 p.m. on Clemente Field. The Saints hold a one-point advantage in the standings entering Tuesday's finale.Â
The Chargers sit two points outside the playoff bubble as they travel to New England College on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. match.Â
