Women's Volleyball Matches Best Start Since 2003 After Five-Set Win at Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. - Matching their best start since 2003, Emmanuel women's volleyball defeated a team for the first time in a decade, as they took down the Lasell Lasers in five sets (25-23, 20-25, 25-17, 27-29, 15-7) on Tuesday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play from the Lasell Athletic Center.

The Saints move to 16-1 (3-0 GNAC) after beating the Lasers for the first time since 2015. Emmanuel is currently on an 11-match winning streak, a feat the 2003 program also pulled off in its 16-1 start to the season 22 years ago. The loss drops Lasell to 11-3 (2-1 GNAC).

Emmanuel had five match points in the fourth set, but failed to put away the Lasers with those opportunities, as a three-point run to end the fourth frame brought Tuesday's match to a fifth set.

The visitor's failure to beat Lasell in the fourth didn't hold them back from closing out the contest in the fifth. The Saints opened with five of the first six points, including three straight kills to open the frame, giving Emmanuel a 5-1 edge. That advantage would hold until the most pivotal run of the night, a 7-1 surge from the Saints, putting them on the brink with a 14-5 lead. The Lasers defended two more match points, but on the eighth opportunity of the evening for the Saints to win, sophomore Julia Haight earned the final kill, giving the Saints a 15-7 set win.

Senior Isabella Marquez finished with a team-high 13 kills while hitting .235 from the floor. Sophomore Letitia Bossou continued her breakout campaign, tacking on 11 kills for the Saints. Haight added a season-high 10 kills, hitting .400 on the night, to go with eight digs. Junior Kason Huynh stuffed the stat sheet once again with a night of 26 assists, 13 digs, seven block assists, and five kills.

Emmanuel seeks their 12th consecutive victory as another tough test awaits them on Thursday, Oct. 9, as they head to Framingham State for a 6:00 p.m. match. The Rams are 12-3 on the season and have won three of the last four conference championships in the MASCAC.
