STANDISH, Maine - Emmanuel women's volleyball notch a Saturday afternoon win over Saint Joseph's College of Maine 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 25-12) and remain unbeaten in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). With the win, the Saints improve to 25-1 (11-0 GNAC) this season and grow their program record winning streak to 20 matches. Emmanuel's 25 wins on the year are the most since the 2014 season. The Monks drop to 15-12 (9-2 GNAC) in the loss.
In the opening set, Emmanuel jumped out to an early 9-4 lead and held Saint Joseph's at bay each time they cut the deficit back to five. The three-straight Emmanuel errors brought the score to 22-17 before the Saints closed out the set on three-straight points jump started by a kill by sophomore
Julia Haight, her sixth of the set, lifted the Saints to a 25-17 win in Set 1. The Emmanuel attack efficiency was strong, posting 13 kills, 6 errors on 35 attempts (a .200 hitting % in the set). Saint Joseph's had 9 kills, 7 errors on 32 attempts (.063 hitting %).
In the second, Saint Joseph's responded with a sharper attack, hitting .294%. A five-point surge gave the Monks the go-ahead, 9-8, and put Emmanuel on the chase and they couldn't close the gap. They scored immediately to make it 9-9, but then SJCM went on a 6-1 run and kept the Saints trailing the remainder of the set. Emmanuel dropped the set 25-21.
The Saints struck back in the third, getting out to a 6-2 lead. The teams traded points, evening the score at 18. The Saints had four-straight kills to give them the momentum to close out the set, winning it 25-20.
The fourth was all Emmanuel, breaking out to a 6-0 lead and never looking back. The Saints would win decidedly, 25-12.
Haight finished with a season-high 15 kills, 7 digs and 3 service aces while
Isabella Marquez added 14 kills and
Letitia Bossou chipped in with 11 kills (.286 hitting %). Junior
Kason Huynh finished with 35 assists while fellow junior
Scheala Nielsen led all players with 19 digs.
The Saints return home to host Elms College on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Jean Yawkey Center at Yosinoff Court. Elms College, 8-15 (1-10 GNAC), looks to snap an eight-game losing streak in the match.
