Men's Basketball Struggles from Deep in Loss to Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. – The Emmanuel College men's basketball team dropped it's second-straight game in a 77-40 loss to Amherst on Tuesday evening at LeFrak Gymnasium.

The Saints (3-3) struggled to find their offensive rhythm throughout the contest, shooting just 31.0 percent from the field and 13.0 percent from three-point range. Emmanuel was just 1-of-11 from beyond the arc in the first half. Amherst (4-1) dominated from the opening tip, building a 37-14 halftime lead and never looking back.

Ryan Rangel provided a spark off the bench for Emmanuel, leading the team with nine points on 4-of-6 shooting. Mahari Guerrier added six points in 27 minutes of action, while Manny Duran contributed four points on a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the free-throw line.

The Mammoths were lock down on defense and the Saints committed 14 turnovers that led to 20 Amherst points. The Mammoths hold their opponent to under 50 for the second-straight contest.

Amherst shot 42.9% from the field and connected on 10 three-pointers while dominating the paint with 30 points. The Purple and White's balanced attack featured four players in double figures, led by Marc Garraud and Elias Chin with 11 points apiece.

Emmanuel showed improved shooting in the second half, connecting at a 37.5% clip from the field compared to just 22.2% in the opening period, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

The Saints next contest is on Wednesday, December 3 at Westfield State University at 7:30 p.m.
