Men's Basketball Bounces Back With Dominant Win, 78-48, vs. John Jay

BOSTON - On night two of the men's basketball Tip Off Classic on Andy Yosinoff court, the Saints picked up their first win of the season in dominant fashion over the John Jay Bloodhounds behind 54 points from the bench.

The story of the night for the Saints was turning defense into offense, and the bench unit wasted no time with that on Saturday night. After the teams exchanged leads early on, Emmanuel jumped out to eight-point lead thanks to a 11-2 run, highlighted by junior guard Connor Hanavan's right wing trey to make it 25-17.

That wasn't the end of the run for the Saints, as they kept it going and continued to push the pace off of defensive rebounds. After a Noah Beaudet fastbreak layup all the sudden the lead ballooned to 15 and the Jean Yawkey Center was getting loud.

The lead grew to 20 with just under three to play in the first half, before the Bloodhounds went on a run of their own. A little 6-0 push cut the lead down to 14, highlighted by an Adrian Kopec fast break layup. The Saints were still in command, holding a 41-27 advantage as the teams headed to the locker room.

Emmanuel came out in the second half with a palpable energy, as the first bucket of the half came off a layup from first year guard Manny Duran, right after his frenetic defense resulted in a block.

The Saints made sure to keep the bloodhounds at bay, as the lead never dipped into single digits. And if there was any doubt, the Saints made sure to slam the door with a quick 13-0 run late in the second half, highlighted by a big momentum three from first year guard Danny Adams that pushed the lead to 20. From there, it was cruise control for the home team until the final buzzer, as they put the finishing touches on a 78-48 home win.

Adams continued his blistering start to the season, as he led the Saints in scoring tonight with 18 points, as well as five assists and five boards. Emmanuel Junior Mahari Guerrier was also vital in the win, as he racked up 18 rebounds to go with 15 points. Conor Hanavan was one of the many bench guards to provide a spark tonight, as he poured in 15 points on 3-6 from behind the arc.

The Saints will return to play on Wednesday night when they travel to Durham, New Hampshire to take on the UNH Wildcats in an exhibition match with a 7 pm tip.
