Women's Basketball Offense Stalls in Second Half, Fall 61-56 to Salve Regina

BOSTON - Despite leading for the majority of the first half and holding a lead as high as eight, Emmanuel's offense stalled in the second half, as the women's basketball team dropped a 61-56 non-conference game to Salve Regina on Tuesday night on Yosinoff Court. The Seahawks improve to 3-5 with the victory, while the Saints drop to 3-3 in defeat.

Emmanuel held a four-point lead at the break, 31-27, but Salve quickly erased the deficit with the first two buckets of the third quarter, tying the game at 31-31. Later in the quarter, the Seahawks took their first lead since early in the game, using a 7-0 run over a 3:05 span, to take a 42-37 edge. From that point, Salve Regina wouldn't surrender the lead on the way to Tuesday's victory.

The visitors led 45-41 to open the fourth and pushed their lead to as many as nine, starting the period on a 7-2 surge, grabbing a 52-43 lead in the process. The Saints made a pair of pushes to get back into the game, first with five straight points, in the middle of the quarter, cutting the deficit to four. But the Seahawks pushed back on that run, scoring five consecutive points of their own to lead 59-50.

The Saints made their final run in the last 1:58 with junior Geanna Bryant and sophomore Lia Krumian combining to go on a 6-0 surge, cutting the game to one possession at 59-56. The home team forced a turnover with 34.2 remaining, giving them a shot to force overtime. The attempt came on a step-back three-pointer by first-year Kendyl Ouimette, but the shot came up short. Ensuing free throws for the Seahawks put the game out of reach in the 61-56 win for Salve.

Seahawks senior Sofia Neary scored a career-high 31 points, using 9-of-17 shooting and 13-of-14 from the line to set a new career mark. First-year Frankie Spadorcia added a career-best 10 points to go with nine rebounds.

Saints sophomore Tyra Blye and Krumian each had a dozen points and seven rebounds, while Blye added in four steals. Bryant added nine points, three assists, and three steals.

The Saints are back in action on Thursday, Dec. 4, as they welcome cross-city rival Emerson to Yosinoff Court for a 7:00 p.m. game. The Seahawks return on Saturday, Dec. 6, hosting Connecticut College at 1:00 p.m.
