Men's Basketball Claims Victory in Overtime Thriller, 95-92, vs. Dean

BOSTON – Despite trailing 75-62 with 5:33 remaining in regulation, Emmanuel men's basketball came back from down double-digits, forcing overtime, and claiming a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory, 95-92, over the Dean Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon on Yosinoff Court.

The win lifts the Saints to 3-16 (2-6 GNAC), as the program improves to 2-0 in overtime games this season. The loss for Dean drops them to 13-5 (5-3 GNAC) on the year.

In a high-scoring overtime, the Bulldogs surged out front in the overtime session after a mid-range jumper by junior Billy Ray Barnes III, followed by a three-pointer by junior Christian Yeates gave Dean an 85-80 lead.

The Saints answered back with a three-point make by first-year Damani Williams, followed by a three-point play thanks to sophomore Cameron Snowden, to take an 86-85 lead.

After the sides traded baskets, the Saints increased their lead to three after a pair of offensive rebounds led to a layup for Mahari Guerrier with 55 seconds to go. Following a steal by sophomore Noah Beaudet, the Saints put the game out of reach with a Snowden layup, giving Emmanuel a 93-88 lead with 12 seconds to go.

Dean pulled back within one possession in the final seconds, but made free throws for the Saints left enough of a cushion as a half-court heave at the buzzer by Dean missed the mark, lifting the Saints to their first win on Yosinoff Court this season, 95-92.

The Bulldogs led by 11 at the break, thanks in part to finishing the first half on a 27-16 run to hold a 47-36 lead. Dean led by as many as 14 early in the second half before Emmanuel's comeback began with a 18-6 run in a span of 7:35, cutting the deficit to 58-56.

Dean responded to the Saints pressure with their own scoring surge, using the next 5:26 to go on a 17-6 run, reestablishing a double-digit lead at 75-62 with 5:33 remaining. In the next 3:36, the Bulldogs lead vanished, as the Saints went on a 15-0 run to take a 77-75 lead. Snowden and Williams combined for 13 of the Saints 15 points in the run that put Emmanuel up by two.

The two-point lead would hold until the final seconds of regulation, as a Saints foul with 1.0 remaining put Bulldogs senior Greg Farrow on the foul line. The senior guard knocked down both shots, sending Saturday's GNAC clash to overtime.

Guerrier finished the afternoon with a career-high 28 points on 9-of-17 shooting and 9-of-13 from the line. Williams added a career-high 27 points, shooting 10-for-18 from the floor, including 5-for-12 from beyond the arc. Snowden also scored a career-high, finishing with 20 points, thanks to 10-for-11 shooting at the line.

Bulldogs senior Ja'maine Davenport had a career-high 27 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Farrow chipped in with 25 points on 9-for-15 from the field, including 5-of-8 shooting from three-point territory. Sophomore Frankie Idlett added 19 points in a team-high 43 minutes.

The Saints return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 4, traveling to Albertus Magnus for a 7:30 tip. The Bulldogs return Tuesday night with a trip to the University of Saint Joseph.
