Men's Lacrosse Drops Cross-City Battle at UMass Boston, 15-7

Boston, Mass. (Mar. 11, 2025) – The UMass Boston men's lacrosse team defeated Emmanuel College 15-7 on Tuesday afternoon at James Cotter Field. 

How It Happened 

The first period saw a back-and-forth battle, with Emmanuel striking first as Braxton Bragg found the back of the net past Beacons goalkeeper James BoldyMatt Hutchings quickly responded with his first of five goals on the day, assisted by Jack Schartner. Hutchings would then give UMass Boston the lead before the period ended, scoring his second goal of the game. 

The Saints continued to fight, as Sanzio DiGesualdo, assisted by Bragg, tied the game again. Adrian Fielosh then scored his first goal of the season before the Saints collected the equalizer. With the score tied once again, the Beacons surged ahead, scoring three unanswered goals. Schartner netted his eighth goal of the season before Hutchings completed his hat trick and Jaden Cronin scored his first of the year to make it 6-3. Nolen Beauregard added his first of the season, giving the Beacons a 7-4 lead heading into the break. 

Emmanuel's DiGesualdo scored his second of the game early in the second half to pull the Saints within two, but UMass Boston responded with a dominant seven-goal run. Seth Libby started the scoring streak at the 6:56 mark of the third period. Hutchings then netted his fourth goal before assisting on Libby's to push the lead to 10-5. 

Hutchings opened the fourth period with his fifth goal of the game, assisted by Cole Allan for the second time. Allan then set up Tyler Hilgert for a man-up goal to extend the lead further. Ryan Steckman-Buck scored back-to-back goals, the first of his career, making it 14-5. Bragg added two more goals for the Saints, but Timothy Sullivan capped off the victory with his 25th career goal, bringing the final score to 15-7. 


Inside the Box Score 

  • UMass Boston recorded 43 shots on goal. The 28 saves by Emmanuel first-year Colby Enos sets a single-game record for the Saints program.

  • The Beacons controlled the faceoffs, winning 24 of 27. 

  • Holden Kuzniar (Georgetown, Mass.) led the UMass defense with four caused turnovers. 

  • Matt Laverty (Barnstable, Mass.) led the Beacons with seven ground balls. 

  • Jack Antico finished with three ground balls and a team-high four caused turnovers.


Up Next 

The Beacons will head south for their Spring Break trip to Charleston, South Carolina, where they will face DePauw, Pfeiffer, and Methodist University. The Saints head into conference play on Saturday, March 15, traveling to the University of St. Joseph's for a 1:00 p.m. game.
