BOSTON – Finishing a stretch of six games in 11 days, Emmanuel women's lacrosse posted an 11-4 victory over the Rivier Raiders on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play from Clemente Field. The victory moves the Saints to 3-3 (1-0 GNAC North) while the loss drops Rivier to 2-2 (1-1 GNAC North).
Emmanuel came out of the gates with the first three tallies of the afternoon, with junior
Madeline Wright scoring a pair of goals 1:17 apart, followed by junior
Avery Robillard scoring on a player-down, giving the Saints a 3-0 lead. Raiders sophomore
Sofia Cebrero capped off the first quarter scoring, cutting the Rivier deficit to 3-1.
In a low-scoring second quarter, Wright and sophomore
Hannah Hoenshell scored in a 1:50 span, lifting the Saints to a 5-1 edge. Emmanuel created numerous opportunities but Rivier senior goalie
Kylie Coupal made five saves in the frame, keeping the Raiders within striking distance. First-year
Ashlynn Ledoux added the final tally of the half, as the Saints took a 5-2 lead into the half.
The third quarter proved vital in the Saints conference win on Saturday afternoon as the home side outscored the Raiders 4-0 in the frame, lifting them to their largest lead of the day.
Senior
Abby Brown opened the scored with a player-advantage goal, followed 1:31 later with senior
Dejaliyah Srimouksavanh finding the net, giving the Saints a 7-2 lead. Robillard and Wright would finish off the scoring in the quarter, adding two more goals to the Saints total for a 9-2 lead through three quarters.
The Saints and Raiders traded goals in the final quarter with Ledoux and senior
Sarah LaChance scoring for the visitors and Srimouksavanh and Wright finding the back of the net for the Saints, leading to Emmanuel's 11-4 victory.
Wright finished the afternoon with five goals and one assist for a six-point day. Robillard and Srimouksavanh added a pair of goals each. Defensively, senior
Delaney Brown came away with a season-high four caused turnovers and six ground balls. Senior goalie
Isabella Thomas made five saves in the cage, improving to 3-3 this season.
Ledoux finished with a pair of tallies for the Raiders to go along with one ground ball. Senior
Cassie Hemmerdinger added four caused turnovers, two ground balls, and two draw controls while LaChance ended the day with a game-high six draw controls. Coupal made seven stops in 30 minutes of play, dropping to 2-2 in the loss.
The Saints head back on the road for a Wednesday, March 19, game at Wheaton, starting at 7:00 p.m. The Raiders are also back on Wednesday, hosting Salve Regina at 7:00 p.m.
