BOSTON – Emmanuel College Director of Athletics Olivia Berry announced the appointment of
Mary Spierto to the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer, effective as of March 18. Spierto joins the Emmanuel Athletic Training staff after serving most recently as the Head Athletic Trainer at Needham High School.
Over nearly three years at Needham High, Spierto worked alongside over 800 student-athletes, providing daily care for Rocket student-athletes. Spierto was also responsible for numerous administrative tasks, including keeping up-to-date medical information, ensuring policies and procedures were followed correctly, and communicating effectively with coaches, staff, and directors, among other responsibilities.
"I am so excited to work at Emmanuel College as the newest Assistant Athletic Trainer," said Spierto. "As a passionate advocate for athlete health and wellness, I look forward to working closely with the student-athletes, coaching staff, and administration to create a supportive, safe, and positive environment for all our sports programs. I am excited to be a part of this community and help empower our athletes to reach their full potential."
Prior to her stop at Needham High, Spierto spent six months in Port St. Lucie, Fla., and later Binghamton, N.Y., working with the New York Mets organization. Her time in Port St. Lucie saw her working with members of the MLB's New York Mets while her stop in Binghamton was with the Mets Double-A affiliate, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Over those six months, her responsibilities included treatment for players, field coverage, injury evaluations, and communication with team doctors.
Spierto has gained experience at the collegiate level after clinical stops at Rivier University and Assumption College had her complete on-field evaluations, execute rehabilitation programs, and use modalities to enhance healing.
"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Mary into our staff of athletic trainers," said Berry. "Her knowledge in the AT field, along with her desire to continue to grow professionally, makes her a great fit for our entire department."
Spierto graduated from Merrimack College with a bachelor's degree in Health Science and, later, a master's degree in Athletic Training. She is a Massachusetts-certified Athletic Trainer and has additional certificates in First Aid, CPR, and dry needling.
