BOSTON – In their final home game of the regular season, the Emmanuel women's lacrosse team delivered a commanding performance, rolling past New England College 16-4 on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) North Division play at Roberto Clemente Field. The win improves the Saints to 10-6 overall and 5-1 in the GNAC North, while New England College drops to 6-10 and 1-5 in the division.
Prior to the game, the Emmanuel College women's lacrosse team and the Department of Athletics recognized five seniors —
Abby Brown,
Delaney Brown,
Rachel Canedy,
Dejaliyah Srimouksavanh, and
Isabella Thomas — for their contributions to the program and the College over the past four years.
Drawing a pair of free-position shots inside the opening minute, the Saints got off to a fast start with juniors
Ella Marschitz and
Madeline Wright each finding the back of the net. Moments later, Canedy added a third for Emmanuel, but the Pilgrims responded with a goal from junior
Meadow Gilchrist. Emmanuel answered right back, closing the quarter with four straight goals, including two from Srimouksavanh, to take a 7-1 lead after 15 minutes.
Both teams opened the second quarter with solid defensive play, but Emmanuel broke through nearly five minutes in with Canedy's second goal of the afternoon. The Saints added two more scores in the period before first-year
Lilly Vaughn put one on the board for the Pilgrims. Emmanuel took a 10-2 lead into halftime.
Another quick start for the Saints in the third quarter pushed the lead to 13-2 by the 10:18 mark. New England College added one goal in the third and another in the fourth, while Emmanuel scored three more to close out a 16-4 GNAC North Division win on Senior Day.
Srimouksavanh packed the stat sheet with four goals, six draw controls, three ground balls, and one caused turnover. Canedy added three goals, marking her second-highest scoring output of the season. Thomas earned the win in goal, finishing with six saves.
For the Pilgrims, Gilchrist scored twice, senior
Mary High picked up four ground balls, and first-year
Jamie Boldin recorded two caused turnovers in the loss.
Up next, Emmanuel will wrap up the regular season with a visit to GNAC North Division leader Norwich on Tuesday (4/22) at 4:00 PM, with the top seed in the division on the line. New England College will close out their season at home, hosting Colby-Sawyer in a divisional matchup on Wednesday (4/23) at 4:00 PM.
