NEWTON, Mass. – After surrendering five of the first six goals on Tuesday night in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Semifinals, Emmanuel men's lacrosse saw its season come to an end, following a 14-8 loss to the Lasell Lasers at Grellier Field.
The win for Lasell moves them to 14-4 this season and advances them into the GNAC Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Saints season concludes at 10-8 with the loss.
The Lasers struck early with back-to-back goals scored 10 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead.
Sam Guilmette scored the game's opening tally before the Lasers won the ensuing faceoff, charged into the offensive end and scored again.
Saints junior
Cole Cloney got Emmanuel on the board halfway through the opening quarter, but Guilmette and
Carson Tucker answered back for the home side, giving the Lasers a 4-1 lead after a quarter.
The Saints pulled within two early in the second with goals by Cloney and first-year
Myles Mitnick, but the two-goal deficit would be as close as the Saints would come as nine of the next 10 goals favored Lasell.
The Lasers wrapped up the first half with three goals in a 3:14 span to hold an 8-3 lead at the half. Saints senior
Ryan Etzo opened the second half scoring, cutting the deficit to 8-4 before the Lasers tallied the next half-dozen goals of Tuesday night's semifinal.
First-year Laser
Jack Condon scored four of the six goals in the run that helped Lasell take a 14-4 edge. Emmanuel closed the game with the final four goals, including two for Etzo, and one each for rookie
Braxton Bragg and senior
Sanzio DiGesualdo as the Lasers advance to Saturday's championship with a 14-8 victory.
Condon scored five goals to go with two assists for a game-high seven points, Guilmette and
Francis Pino both added a pair of goals in the win. Lasers goalie
Michael Catalano made 15 saves in 56 minutes on his way to the win.
Etzo finished his season with a hat trick, leading the Saints in goal scoring on the night. Cloney added two tallies while sophomore
Cooper Mehlhorn finished with two assists. Rookie goalie
Colby Enos made 16 stops for the Saints in goal.
The Lasers head to Rivier on Saturday, May 3, for the GNAC Championship game.
