MILTON, Mass. – Emmanuel women's volleyball opened up their 2025 campaign with a trip to Curry College and came away with a pair of victories on a tri-match Saturday, sweeping the Colonels and the Lesley Lynx from Katz Gymnasium.
MATCH ONE: Emmanuel 3 – Curry 0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-10)
After trading points early in the opening set, an Emmanuel 5-0 run set the Saints up for success in the opening frame. The visitors combined for 13 kills while hitting .310 from the floor in the set, on the way to a 25-17 win.
In the second, the Saints offense continued to thrive, this time combining for 12 kills on a .375 hitting percentage. An early 6-0 run in the second set gave plenty of breathing room to Emmanuel while a 5-1 run to finish the frame produced a 25-12 set win.
The Saints saved their best for last in the third, using 11 team kills on 18 attempts with just one error to hit a match-best .556 in the set. Emmanuel opened the set with five of the first six points before a 10-1 run through the middle of the set helped the Saints clinch the straight sets win.
Junior Scheala Nielsen led all players with 11 kills, hitting .435 in the match. She added a match-high 11 digs in the win. Senior Isabella Marquez added seven kills with sophomore Madison Sherman chipping in six kills.
For Curry, Meghan Abbott led the Colonels with four kills while Kyla Martin finished with a team-high eight digs.
MATCH TWO: Emmanuel 3 – Lesley 0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-8)
Tied at 5-5 in the opening set, the Saints broke open the first with 14 consecutive points. Included in the run was five aces by sophomore Lauren Talbott and kills by four different Saints. Emmanuel finished the set with a .316 hitting percentage, on the way to a 25-9 set win.
Much like the first set, another run through the middle of the set for the Saints set up a second set victory. Using a 10-1 surge, the Saints built a comfortable lead, coasting to a 25-11 set win.
The final run of the Saints Saturday sweep came late in the third set, as the Saints picked up the straight sets win. An 11-1 run to close the match helped Emmanuel to a 25-8 set win.
Sophomore Julia Haight finished with a team-high six kills while sophomore Frances Ramos Rodriguez and first-year Ayla Evans both added four kills each. Talbott finished the afternoon with a match-high seven aces.
The Saints return to play on Friday, Sept. 5, welcoming Sarah Lawrence College to Yosinoff Court for the Saints 2025 home opener.
