Women's Soccer Scores Saturday Conference Win Over USJ, 4-0

BOSTON – Emmanuel women's soccer scored a pair of goals in each half, getting back in the win column on Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 victory over the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play at Clemente Field.

The Saints move to 4-2-2 (3-0-1 GNAC) with the victory, posting their second shutout at home this season in four matches at Clemente. The Blue Jays drop down to 2-5-1 (2-1-1 GNAC) in the loss.

The opening goal of the afternoon came from the penalty spot after senior Sarah Dullaghan drew a PK after being fouled in the penalty area. Fellow senior Annebel Balogh de Galantha stepped to the penalty mark and fired home a shot for the game's opening goal.

Emmanuel doubled the lead just three minutes later in the 18th minute, with junior Paige Letourneau scoring her fourth of the season. After a turnover near midfield, Letourneau drove toward the net, sliding a shot under the USJ goalie to give the Saints a 2-0 edge.

It wasn't until early in the second half that the home side boosted their lead to 3-0. Letourneau nearly scored again after a cross in on a corner kick, but her attempt hit the post, ricocheting to junior Libby Tennant, who reacted quickly to the shot off the post by responding with a right-footed poke into the net.

The 4-0 final would come courtesy of another penalty kick for the Saints as Dullaghan stepped in and netted her fourth of the year in the 69th minute.

Emmanuel finished with 29 total shot attempts, including 17 on goal. They also held the advantage in corner kicks, 12-2, over the Blue Jays.

Sophomore Teigan Robie made no stops in the Saints net, improving to 4-2-2 with the win. Blue Jays junior goalie Madison Corcoran made a career-high 13 saves in the USJ goal.

The Saints hit the road on Tuesday, Sept. 30, traveling to Regis for a 7:00 p.m. conference tilt. The Blue Jays start a three-game GNAC homestand on Wednesday, Oct. 1, hosting Simmons at 6:00 p.m.
