Boston - The Saints continued their winning ways on Wednesday night, as a first half offensive clinic lifted the team over Albertus Magnus, 81-50. Emmanuel (9-4, 2-0) tallied 30 of the team's 81 points the night in the first frame, as the high powered offensive attack was led by Lia Krumian, who finished with a season high 17 points. This is the third straight victory for the Saints, and second straight in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
The Saints came out firing early and often on Wednesday night, with the first two makes being from downtown off the hands of sophomore guard Lia Krumian. This was followed by an-and-one layup from junior guard Geanna Bryant to give the team a 9-2 advantage with over seven minutes to play in the period.
The offensive clinic didn't stop there, as back to back threes from Bryant and Shea Canavan gave Emmanuel their first double digit lead of the evening at 22-10. The frenetic defense continued to wreak havoc on the Falcons, forcing six first quarter turnovers that turned into eight quick points. The Saints capped off the quarter with a Jordan Whitehead fast break finish to give the team an even 30 points, and a 20 point advantage at 30-10 heading into the second period.
In the second period, the Saints offense slowed down, just shooting 33.3% from the field, with the Falcons at one point cutting the deficit down to 18 at 33-15. That would be as low as the deficit got the rest of the way, as Krumian once again got hot from behind the arc, burying a three through contact and hitting the free throw to put Emmanuel up 43-15. The advantage for the home team was 26 heading into the locker room at 47-21.
The third quarter featured a more back and forth affair, with neither team shooting more than 32% from the field. Emmanuel was still able to build upon the lead, with a pair of free throws from junior forward Kalia Saunders to give the team a 30 point advantage at 62-32. That same advantage would hold through the period, with the Saints up 66-36.
Emmanuel was able to cruise through the fourth quarter, polishing off yet another GNAC win with conference play just getting underway.
The Saints were led by Krumian, pouring in a season high 17 points, with Saunders also adding in 11 points and 11 boards for her second career double-double. The lockdown defense from Emmanuel held the Falcons to just 21.2% shooting, as they coasted to an 81-50 victory.
The Saints will travel to Bristol, Rhode island for a 1:00 pm tip off against Roger Williams as they search for their 4th straight victory.
