Men’s Basketball falls Just Short to Rivier in First Match of 2026

BOSTON, Mass. - The Saints lost a thriller to Rivier in the team's 2026 opener Tuesday night on Andy Yosinoff Court. In a back and forth affair, Emmanuel just couldn't keep Rivier off the line, dropping the team to 6-7 on the season, with Rivier improving to 7-6.

No team was able to gain control in the first half, as the lead for either side never grew to more than three until a layup from Robenson Baguidy put the Raiders up four at 17-13.

Emmanuel punched back quickly after, as a 7-0 sprint put the Saints in front at 20-17, highlighted by a steal and layup off the inbounds from first year guard Danny Adams.

The game of runs continued the remainder of the half, with Rivier regaining the lead at 22-20 off another layup from Baguidy. The lead never changed sides the rest of the half, with the Raiders
taking a 32-28 advantage into the break.

The second half was defined by the Saints inability to defend without fouling. The Raiders used four straight free throws to take a 45-39 advantage with 14:30 to play, grabbing a hold of the
game. Emmanuel was never able to keep Rivier off the line, surrendering 20 points from the charity stripe.

The Saints continued to scrap and claw as the second half began to wind down, eventually grabbing the lead at 54-53 after a nice finish at the rim from first year guard Manny Duran.

Emmanuel looked poised to take control late, as junior guard Noah Baudet began to heat up, burying back to back three's to give the Saints a 60-56 lead and igniting the crowd.

The score was 62-58 with Emmanuel in front, when a 7-0 run from the visitors gave them control that they would not give up the rest of the night.

With just nine seconds remaining, the Saints had a chance to escape with a win, but a three point attempt from Cameron Snowden went just left as time expired, giving the Raiders a 72-70
victory.

Beaudet, Snowden and Guerrier combined for 44 of the team's 70 points on Tuesday night, but it proved to be not enough to grab the team its first win of the new year.
