NEWTON, Mass. - Emmanuel men's soccer continued its unbeaten run on Wednesday afternoon, claiming a 5-1 victory over the Lasell Lasers at Taylor Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The Saints have won five straight and are unbeaten in their last eight matches. The five-match winning streak equals the second-longest winning streak in program history, as Emmanuel jumps to 8-5-3 (7-2-1 GNAC).
Sophomore
Joao Ramos opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, but the Lasers answered back quickly in the 35th minute on a goal by
Trent Pavoris. For that point, the Saints scored four unanswered on the way to Wednesday's win.
Two minutes later, in the 37th, first-year
Louie Miller shook off defenders and found space at the top of the penalty area. His right-footed shot squeaked under the Lasers keeper, giving the Saints a 2-1 edge.
The lead increased after halftime with junior
Rafael Matamoros heading home his team-leading fifth goal of the season on a cross into the box by first-year
Jacob Nardelli. The Saints added two more goals in the final minutes, including the first of the collegiate career for junior
John Vittorioso, as the Saints capped off a 5-1 win.
