NEW LONDON, Conn. - In one of their final appearances before the end of its inaugural season, Saints men's wrestling made the trip to Coast Guard to compete in the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament.
Saints first-year
Ethan Martel finished 4-2 on the afternoon, starting his tournament with a 9-4 win in the Round of 64, followed by a 7-3 victory in the Round of 32. After falling in the Round of 16, Martel bounced down to the consolation bracket, where he scored another pair of victories, including a 5-4 decision over the No. 7-seeded wrestler in the 157 bracket.
Sophomore
Austin Gamber and first-year
Kingston Cotter each went 2-2 on the day in the 141 and 165 pound class, respectively. Both Saints scored wide victories on Sunday, as Gamber scored an 18-0 tech fall in the consolation round of 16, while Cotter posted a 20-4 tech fall in his consolation round of 16.
The Saints are off for two weeks in prepation of the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, hosted at Coast Guard. The Championships will take place on Saturday, Feb. 28, and Sunday, March 1.
