Saints Second Quarter Surge Lifts Women's Basketball Over Norwich, 70-49

BOSTON – A second quarter Emmanuel surge of a 22-2 run helped the Saints to a conference victory on Tuesday night, as they defeated the Norwich Cadets, 70-49, on Yosinoff Court in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. The Saints move to 18-6 (11-0 GNAC) in the win, while the Cadets fall to 11-12 (7-4 GNAC).

The Saints entered the second quarter trailing by one before starting their offensive outburst. Emmanuel opened with six straight points, including four by sophomore Tyra Blye, as the home side never trailed again.

A Cadet free throw broke up the 6-0 Emmanuel start, as the Saints led 22-18, before rattling off a 16-1 run in the final 6:15 of the quarter. Six different Saints scored in the half-closing run, including six points for sophomore Lia Krumian, as the Saints led 38-19 at the break.

Emmanuel shot 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the field in the second quarter, while holding Norwich to 0-for-8 shooting to go along with 11 turnovers.

Through the third quarter, Emmanuel's lead grew to as many as 27, as another efficient quarter of shooting by the Saints helped them outscore the Cadets by six in the third, giving them a 53-38 lead. The home team shot 62.5 percent (10-for-16) in the third, as their unbeaten GNAC record remained intact after another dominant performance on home court.

Krumian finished with a game-high 17 points on 7-for-15 shooting, to go along with five assists. Blye was close behind, scoring 15 points on 7-for-13 from the floor. The Saints are 8-3 on Yosinoff Court this season, but haven't lost at home since last December.

Cadets senior Cassidy Kittredge finished with a team-high 13 points on 6-for-15 from the floor. Sophomore Lily Briggs added four points, 10 assists, and four steals in the loss. Briggs accounted for 10 of the Cadets 14 assists on Tuesday night.

The GNAC regular season comes to a close on Saturday, Feb. 21, as the Saints head to Rivier for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off. The Cadets finish up their schedule by hosting Elms at 1:00 p.m. Emmanuel locked up home court advantage throughout the GNAC Postseason, while the Cadets currently sit in the fourth position in the conference standings.
