CHICOPEE, Mass. - Emmanuel women's basketball maintained its unbeaten conference record and a two-game lead in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings, thanks to a 58-30 victory over the Elms Blazers on Saturday from Picknelly Arena. The Saints move to 15-5 (8-0 GNAC) with the win, while the Blazers drop to 6-15 (2-6 GNAC) in the loss.
As they have for many of their conference games this season, the Saints got out to an early lead and never looked back. The visitors opened Saturday's win with an 11-0 run to start play, needing 3:46 to take a double digit lead. Elms answered back with an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to a pair, but the Saints finished the quarter with the final six points to lead 19-11 after a quarter.
Emmanuel's second quarter came with 22 points while holding the Blazers to just eight points on 4-of-10 shooting. The Saints advantage grew rapidly through the middle of the second quarter, as a 12-2 surge by the Saints gave them their largest lead of the half at 41-27.
The Saints advantage grew to as many as 32 in the second half, as the offenses for both teams slowed in the second half, on the way to Emmanuel's sixth straight win, dating back to Jan. 20.
Sophomore
Tyra Blye finished with a game-high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Junior
Kalia Saunders added 11 points off the bench, while senior
Megan Reilly chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Saints are back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 10, traveling to Tufts for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Jumbos in non-conference play.
