BOSTON – In a decisive fourth quarter, the Wheaton Lyons outscored Emmanuel women's lacrosse 5-1, as the visiting Lyons came into Clemente Field and claimed a 15-10 victory over the Saints on Wednesday night in non-conference play. The win moves the Lyons to 5-2, as the Saints drop to 4-3 in the loss.
Wheaton carried a 10-9 lead into the fourth quarter and added insurance early in the frame with a player-up goal by Kaydie O'Neil. That two-goal lead held through much of the fourth until the Lyons rattled off three goals in a span of 3:16, taking a 14-9 lead in the process.
Emmanuel scored its lone tally in the fourth with 3:20 remaining on a goal by senior Avery Robillard, but the deficit was too large to overcome, as the visiting Lyons added a final goal in the last 90 seconds, on the way to a 15-10 win.
Until the fourth quarter, no lead in the game was larger than two. Despite fighting back to tie the score on multiple occasions throughout the first three quarters, the Saints never held a lead on Wednesday night. A 4-4 tie was the final time the Saints had the match tied on the night, as Wheaton managed to stay ahead of any Saints run.
Senior Madeline Wright finished with a team-high four goals, continuing her streak of consecutive games with at least three goals to start the season. Robillard added a pair of goals, while sophomore Ella Stein and first-year Daphne Blake each chipped in with one goal and one assist.
For the Lyons, Jessica Chamberlin had a game-high seven points with five goals and two assists. O'Neil and Georgia Qua both added three goals and one assist.
The Saints are back in action on Saturday, March 21, returning to conference play with a noon faceoff against Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
