Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Falls Below .500 with 16-6 Loss to Roger Williams

Boston - After a hot start, Men's Lacrosse's offense was stifled on Saturday afternoon, leading to the team's third non-conference loss of the year. Roger Williams (2-6) fell down by three goals early on, but after a string of seven unanswered goals, grabbed control of the game and never let it go, handling Emmanuel (3-4) by a score of 16-6.

The Saints were ready to go from the first whistle, as just under two minutes into the game Senior captain Cole Cloney twisted his way through the defense and found the back of the net to get the scoring underway. That was quickly followed up by two more Emmanuel goals, from Brandon Shuman and Chase Greenlaw.

Emmanuel held that advantage until two minutes to go in the first period, when Caleb McKeown opened the scoring for the Hawks, cutting the deficit to 3-1. This would be the first of an impressive seven unanswered goals from Roger Williams as they continued to dominate the time of possession and impose their physicality.

Facing a 7-3 hole late in the second period, Emmanuel finally was able to put one in the back of the net, as Cloney notched his second goal of the day to send the team into the halftime break trailing by a score of 7-4.

On the other side of the break, Emmanuel struck again, this time Kyle Schmitz buried a shot off a feed from Cloney. That cut the deficit down to two at 7-5, but that would be as close as Emmanuel found themselves the rest of the game.

The rest of the half was an onslaught from the Hawks, as they scored nine of the final 10 goals, turning this Saturday matinee into a blowout. The Roger Williams offense was the difference in the match, as they were able to get off 51 shots on the day, and cleanly winning a majority of the faceoff battles as well.

Emmanuel was led by Junior Brandon Shuman and Cloney, who tallied two goals a piece. Sophomore goaltender Colby Enos racked up 10 saves on the day, while Senior Ty Carroll scooped up nine ground balls. The Roger Williams Hawks were led by McKeown, who recorded four goals.
