Softball Splits Sunday GNAC Doubleheader at Saint Joseph's of Maine

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (7-13, 1-5 GNAC) split a GNAC softball doubleheader with Emmanuel College (6-14, 5-1 GNAC) on Sunday afternoon at Richard W. Bailey Field, falling 10-2 in the opener before responding with a 4-2 victory in game two.

GAME ONE: Emmanuel 10 - Saint Joseph's 2

Emmanuel scratched across a run in the second before Saint Joseph's answered in the bottom of the third, when senior Sadie Tirrell scored on a double by senior Chantelle Bouchard. The Saints broke the game open with three runs in the fifth, added three more in the sixth, and scored three times again in the seventh to pull away. First-year Rylee Smith produced a two-run double in the fifth and a two-run single in the sixth, knocking in four Saints runs in their 10-2 win. The Monks got their other run in the sixth on an RBI double by Quintal.

Smith batted 2-for-4 in game one with a double, a single, and four RBI. Junior MeKayla Poisson finished 2-for-4 with three runs, while sophomore Sydney Taylor went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Sophomore pitcher Lauren Peers threw all seven innings, earning the win to move to 3-3.

GAME TWO: Saint Joseph's 4 - Emmanuel 2

Emmanuel struck first with two runs in the top of the opening inning with a two-run double by junior Francesca Pizzarella, but the Monks answered in the bottom of the third. Freshman Breann MacMillan singled, Quintal doubled, and Napolitano-Aberle followed with a two-run single to tie the game. Saint Joseph's moved in front in the fourth when senior Jayden Sullivan came home on a sacrifice fly by Quintal, then added an insurance run in the sixth as Quintal scored on another RBI single by Napolitano-Aberle.

Pizzarella finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double. Junior Mia Fernandes went 1-for-4 with a double in game two. First-year Carmen Crockett pitched six innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits.

The Saints return ot play on Tuesday, March 31, with a doubleheader at WPI, starting at 3:30 p.m.
