Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Guest Records 1,000th Kill in Loss to Rivier, 3-0

Boston - Men's volleyball (10-13, 3-3) couldn't quite get the job done on Tuesday night when they played host to Rivier (12-11, 4-2) in a crucial Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match, losing 3-0. Not all was lost for the Saints, as in the second set, senior outside hitter Trey Guest eclipsed the 1,000 kills mark for his career, becoming just the seventh player in program history to reach that mark.

The match was tight early on, until Rivier began to assert their will. It was a 5-4 Raiders lead when they proceeded to go on a 6-0 tear to extend the lead to seven. The size of the Raiders made it incredibly difficult, as they recorded 10 blocks on the day. Rivier kept their foot on the gas, as they took the first set by a score of 25-14.

The second is where history was made for Guest, as the Saints held an 8-4 advantage when Guest took a set from Tye Barrett and emphatically spiked it to the ground, joining the 1,000 kills club.

Emmanuel was dominating midway through the second set, as they held a 16-9 advantage and looked poised to knot the match up. The Raiders then went on to score 11 of the next 15 points, shocking the Saints and tying up the match. A kill from first year Collin Martin gave the Saints the lead at 21-20, but it was countered by four of the next five points heading to the Raiders, as the road team stole the second set by a score of 25-22.

A 9-0 run from the Raiders was the story of the third set, as once again the Saints had a lead early on at 8-5 when the run occurred. Emmanuel was never able to climb back in, surrendering the set by a score of 25-18, and dropping the match.

Junior Cayson Branconier led the way with 10 kills on the day, followed closely by Guest with nine. Everett Boyer paced the Raiders with 11 kills, and junior Tyler Dickinson tallied six blocks.
