Men's Lacrosse Drops 10-5 Decision to Saint Joseph's

STANDISH, Maine — Emmanuel College men's lacrosse dropped a 10-5 decision to Saint Joseph's of Maine on Saturday night at the SJC Athletic Complex, falling to 6-8 on the season and 5-4 in conference play.

The Saints were unable to find their footing in the opening quarter, surrendering four unanswered goals to the Monks. Saint Joseph's controlled the faceoff circle from the opening whistle, with Zander Kirk winning all four first-quarter draws against Emmanuel's Myles Mitnick. Nicolas Michaud paced Saint Joseph's with a hat trick in the period, and Brandon Cavicchi added a goal off an assist from Tony Samiotes as SJC built a commanding 4-0 lead after 15 minutes. Emmanuel's Colby Enos was tested early, making three saves to keep the deficit from growing further.

The Saints showed resilience in the second quarter, outscoring the Bears 3-1. Brandon Shuman got Emmanuel on the board at the 14:50 mark, finishing off a feed from Christian Hanoian. Just under three minutes later, Chase Greenlaw buried a goal assisted by Nikko Kelly to make it 4-2 and inject some momentum into the Emmanuel sideline. Ethan Madura capped the quarter's scoring with a goal assisted by Greenlaw with 50 seconds remaining, pulling the Saints within two, heading into halftime tailing 5-3.

Joseph Kiedaisch took over for Saint Joseph's in the third frame, scoring back-to-back unassisted goals within 70 seconds of each other to push the lead to 7-3. Ethan Madura kept Emmanuel in the fight with his second goal of the game at 2:57 — his second of three on the afternoon — cutting the deficit to 7-4.

Saint Joseph's pulled away for good in the fourth, scoring three goals over the first five and a half minutes of the period to go up 10-4. Kiedaisch capped a dominant individual performance with his third goal of the game, finishing a five-point day. Madura provided the afternoon's final highlight, netting his third goal of the game at 7:18 on another Yan assist to set the final score at 10-5.

Ethan Madura was the offensive engine for Emmanuel, recording a game-high three goals to go along with an assist. Samuel Yan contributed two assists, and Chase Greenlaw added a goal and an assist. In goal, Colby Enos (4-7) was busy all night, stopping 9 of 19 shots on goal he faced.

Saint Joseph's outshot Emmanuel 33-17, dominated the ground ball battle 40-12, and won 17 of 18 faceoffs. Emmanuel's clear rate of 22-for-34 (65%) also created challenges in transition.

The Saints committed all three penalties on the day — two slashing calls and a holding — though Saint Joseph's went 0-for-3 on the resulting extra-man opportunities.
