Women’s Lacrosse Extends Winning Streak in Regular Season Finale Over USJ, 18-12

West Hartford - Women's Lacrosse (13-4, 12-1) will take a nine-game win streak into postseason play after finishing off the regular season with a convincing 18-12 road win over the University of Saint Joseph (10-7, 9-4). Madeline Wright and Ella Stein combined for nine total goals as for the fifth time this season the team posted at least 18 total goals.

Just under three minutes into the first frame, the Saints opened the scoring on the road as Senior Avery Robillard netted her 20th goal of the season. It only took 16 seconds for the Blue Jays to respond with the equalizer as Alana Picard found the back of the net.

The defense from the Saints began to pick up, limiting USJ to only one more goal over the rest of the period, while Emmanuel poured in four more scores to take a 5-2 advantage into the second period. The Saints used this period to gain some distance and put a stranglehold on the match, as Wright and Ella Marschitz tallied three total goals to extend the lead to 8-2 just halfway through the period.

USJ was not done quite yet, as they finally got back on the board with 6:02 to play in the half as Kailey Krusewski took a feed from Picard and fired it past the Saints goaltender. Krusewski found the back of the net again three minutes later to cut the lead to 8-4. Emmanuel would tack on one more goal to take a 9-4 lead into the break.

The third frame featured the most defense of any period, with both sides adding in two goals, with Emmanuel firmly in charge as the fourth quarter loomed.

The fourth featured more back and forth action, with the teams trading goals early on, and Emmanuel holding onto a 13-9 advantage. That's when Stein and Wright once again sparked the offensive attack, striking with two quick goals to give the team a six point lead once again with just under eight minutes to play.

The Saints held on from there, taking the regular season finale by a score of 18-12 and riding high into Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) postseason play with a nine-game win streak.

Senior Madeline Wright continued her impressive campaign, adding in five goals and two assists with Ella Stein tallying four goals. Keira Walsh racked up 10 saves in net for Emmanuel.
