Softball Sweeps Norwich in Friday Afternoon Doubleheader

BOSTON - Emmanuel College softball swept the Norwich Cadets in a Friday afternoon doubleheader at Clemente Field, winning both games in five innings, 10-1 and 14-4.

Game 1: Emmanuel 10 - 1 Norwich

Emmanuel wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, erupting for five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Mia Fernandes, Sydney Taylor, Rylee Smith, Emely Rodriguez, and Alexis Martineau all came through with extra-base hits or RBIs during the early barrage.

Carmen Crockett (5-11) was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete six innings while striking out 11 Norwich batters and allowing just one unearned run.

The Saints added a run in the second and put it away with a four-run sixth, capped by a three-run home run from Sydney Taylor. Taylor finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Fernandes went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and MeKayla Poisson reached base four times out of the leadoff spot. Fernandes third hit of the game marked the 100th for her career as a Saint.

Game 2: Emmanuel 14 - 4 Norwich

The Saints were even more explosive in the nightcap, sending 14 runs across in a five-inning contest. After a quiet first inning, Emmanuel batted around and then some in the bottom of the second, scoring eight runs on a relentless parade of walks, a passed ball, and timely hitting. Grace Garon highlighted the frame with a bases-clearing single that also advanced to third on an error.

The Saints kept their foot on the gas in the fourth, plating six more runs behind RBI hits from Rodriguez, Fernandes, and Garon, who finished the day with four RBIs. Emmanuel drew 12 walks in the game.

Lauren Peers (3-6) earned the win, working 3.1 innings and allowing just two earned runs before handing off to MeKayla Poisson
