BRIGHTON, Mass. – Emmanuel softball opened its postseason in Pod A play, falling to the top-team in the group, the Simmons Sharks, 3-0, on Wednesday night from Daly Field in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Postseason. The Sharks advance to the winner's bracket and improve to 21-18 with the win. The loss for the Saints drops them into the loser's bracket and to a record of 14-23.
After a scoreless start, the Sharks opened the scoring in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead. With two outs and two runners in scoring position,
Zoe Soule took a 2-2 pitch to left-center for a two-run double.
That 2-0 lead held to the top of the fifth with the Saints having their best chance to tie the game or take the lead, loading the bases with two outs. A flyout to center field ended the bases loaded threat, keeping Simmons ahead by two.
The home side added insurance in the bottom of the fifth on a two-out, RBI double by
Nevaeh Eth into the left-center gap, giving the Sharks a 3-0 lead.
Emmanuel had another shot in the sixth, with two on and two out, but another flyout by the visitors kept them off the board.
Saints junior
MeKayla Poisson finished 2-for-4 at the plate, while sophomore
Olivia DeMacedo went 2-for-3. The Saints outhit the Sharks on the night, 6-3, but the Saints left eight runners on base in the shutout loss.
