NEWTON -
The Emmanuel College men's volleyball team's season came to an end at the hands of #1 (#14 AVCA Poll) Lasell University in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Semifinals on Thursday evening, falling in straight sets (16-25, 20-25, 14-25) to the unbeaten Colonials (20-6, 7-0 GNAC).
Set 1: Lasell 25 - 16 Emmanuel
The Saints came out competitive in the opening frame, with the teams tied six times before Lasell began to separate. Trey Guest led the Emmanuel attack with four kills in the set, while Carlton Cummings and Cayson Branconier each chipped in. Emmanuel hit .114 as a team in the set, but the Colonials' Jasper Schultz proved difficult to contain from the start, helping power Lasell to the 25-16 win.
Set 2: Lasell 25 - 20 Emmanuel
Emmanuel played its best volleyball of the afternoon in the second set, hitting .188 and pulling within striking distance at several points — the two teams tied once before Lasell again took control. Guest continued to pace the offense, finishing with four more kills in the frame. Branconier and Cummings remained active contributors, and setter Tye Barrett orchestrated the offense steadily with most of his 22 assists coming in the first two sets. Despite the improved showing, Lasell's balanced attack — led by Schultz and Teddy Teraszkiewicz — proved too much, and the Colonials took the second, 25-20.
Set 3: Lasell 25 - 14 Emmanuel
The third set was Lasell's most dominant of the match. Emmanuel managed only a .053 hitting percentage on six kills against five errors in 19 attempts, and the Colonials closed out the match efficiently at 25-14. Brendan McGinley and Collin Martin saw time off the bench for Emmanuel in the final two sets, but the Saints were unable to generate enough momentum to extend the match.
Guest led all Emmanuel players with 10 kills. Cummings was the Saints' most efficient option, going 5-for-7 with no errors for a .714 clip. Branconier added five kills and seven digs. Barrett ran the offense with 22 assists.
For Lasell, Schultz was the standout performer with 15 kills on a .464 clip, while Teraszkiewicz (6 kills, .500) and Nathaniel Cobuzzi (6 kills, .455) were equally efficient. The Colonials hit .381 as a team compared to Emmanuel's .128, and held a 39-27 advantage in kills while committing only seven attack errors to the Saints' 16.
The Saints finish the season 12-13 (4-3 GNAC).
